Linda D. Barnes
Linda D. Barnes, age 63, born August 19, 1949 in Lansing, MI; passed away January 18, 2013. Linda retired from Oldsmobile in 2000 after 31 years of service. She was inducted into the Greater Lansing Area Bowling Hall of Fame in 2011 for her many years of mentoring youth bowlers. Linda was a friend to everyone she met and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Russell, son Aaron (Tracey) Barnes, and daughter Ericka (Jason) Hartigan. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor of St. Johns for the wonderful care Linda received.
Arrangements will be made by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes of Lansing. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Those desiring may make contributions to the Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor, 1101 S. Scott Road, St. Johns, MI 48879 in memory of Linda.


Joanne Kathryn Ladiski
Joanne Kathryn Ladiski, age 65, of Elsie, MI passed away Monday, January 21, 2013 at Sparrow Hospital Lansing, MI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church Ovid, MI on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 11:00 A.M., Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek will officiate. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, MI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 from 6-8 P.M. and on Thursday, January 24, 2013 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI. Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 P.M. Thursday.
Joanne was born in St. Johns, Michigan on July 1, 1947, the daughter of Joseph and Dorothy (Schneider) Heckman. She graduated from Pewamo-Westphalia High School with the class of 1965. On June 23, 1973 Joanne married Robert Ladiski at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pewamo, Michigan. Joanne was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching MSU. She also enjoyed bowling. Joanne resided most of her life in the Pewamo and Elsie areas. She was a member of the ZCBJ Lodge #225 in Bannister, Michigan, as well as a charter member of the Bannister ZCBJ Czechoslovakian folk dancers. She was also a member of the Elsie Women’s Literary Club and a very proud Lady Pirate of Pewamo-Westphalia. Joanne was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church Ovid, MI.
She is survived by her husband Robert Ladiski of Elsie, MI, 1 daughter Teresa Ladiski of Elsie, MI, 2 sons; Victor Ladiski of Elsie, MI, John and Michelle Ladiski of Elsie, MI, 4 grandchildren; Dylan, Lexie, Alyse, Jaxon, mother Dorothy Heckman of Pewamo, MI, 2 sisters; Jean and Louis Schafer, Theresa and Edward Ladiski, 6 brothers; John and Sharon Heckman, Jim and Ellen Heckman, Ed and Joan Heckman, Tom Heckman, Ken and Joyce Heckman, Joe and Ruth Heckman, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Joseph Heckman, and 1 sister Marie Fernholz.
Memorials may be made to ZCBJ Lodge, Bannister, Michigan or O-E Leonard Elementary School. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, Michigan.


Margaret Ann Surdenik
Margaret Ann Surdenik, age 83, of St. Johns, Michigan died Friday, January 18, 2013 at her residence.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel on Monday, January 21, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. Deacon Marvin Robertson will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2013 from 2-8 with the family present 2-4 and 6-8 at the funeral home.
Margaret was born in Ashley, Michigan on August 2, 1929, the daughter of Stephen J. and Francis P. (Kajan) Duchi. On August 19, 1965 she married Paul Surdenik. They formerly owned/operated Twin Pines Nursery and she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Johns, MI. Margaret thoughts always put her family first and she also enjoyed the outdoors.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Paul Surdenik of St. Johns, MI, daughter, Sharon Whitford Glomski of Holt, MI, three sons, Jack Whitford Surdenik and Lori of Lansing, MI, James Whitford Surdenik and Chris of St. Johns, MI and Paul Michael and Wendy Surdenik of Lenox Township, MI and 6 grandchildren, Casie Babbitt of Lansing, MI, Emily and Tom McIntire of Portland, MI, Jenna Surdenik of East Lansing, MI, Tanner Whitford Surdenik of Lansing, MI and Nicholas & Sarah of Lenox Township, MI, 5 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her first husband Jack E. Whitford, sister, Emily Tvarusek and four brothers, Steve, John and Joe Duchi and Paul Duski.

Geraldine Mae Workman
Geraldine Mae “Gerry” Workman, age 96, died peacefully at Masonic Pathways Home in Alma, MI. while under the care of Great Lakes Caring Hospice, on January 17, 2013.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Johns, MI on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Matthew Olson officiating. Burial will take place at Mt. Rest Cemetery St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. and an Eastern Star Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
Gerry was born January 5, 1917 in St. Johns, MI the daughter of Howard and Esther (Coffman) Plowman. She was a graduate of Rodney B. Wilson High School. Gerry married Arthur G. Workman on August 17, 1938. He died in April of 1967. Gerry retired from Clinton National Bank (1979) after having a banking career for most of her life. Gerry’s hobbies were crafting, card playing, gardening (especially flowers), crocheting, knitting, reading, and cooking. She had always been an active member of St. Johns Congregational Church and Congregators. Gerry was a devoted Eastern Star member. She received her 50 year membership certificate in 2002.
Gerry will be remembered for her million dollar smile which she shared with everyone. She will be truly missed by her family, friends, and a community which honored her as one of Clinton County’s pioneering women. She leaves behind many wonderful memories in this world, but her journey will take her to a homecoming by many in the next world.
Surviving are her son Ed of Florida and daughter Jo Ann (George) Ford of Moran, MI, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her husband Art, she was preceded in death by her son Don, and 3 sisters; Dorothy Sexton, Betty LeClear, Rosella Burnham.

Betty L. Wilbur
Betty L. Wilbur, 91 of St. Johns died peacefully at her home on Tuesday January 15, 2013. Betty was born on July 30, 1921 in Ovid Twp. the daughter of Clarence L. and Geneva M. (Hebeler) Kaltrider. She graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School in 1938 and received her teacher’s certificate from Central Michigan University. Betty started teaching school in 1940 at Rowell School and later at East Olive Schools, retiring from St. Johns Public Schools.
On October 4, 1940 she married Robert T. Wilbur in Clinton County. He preceded her in death on February 26, 1996. Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church, taught Sunday School and was President of the Women’s Society of Christian Service. She was a Girl Scout leader, member of Mint Country Garden Club, Clinton County Chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, and the Mid-Michigan Audubon Society.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Ann Marie (Donald) Zimmerman of St. Johns and Mary (Michael) Beaty of Laingsburg; grandchildren, Donald (Gail) Zimmerman of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Karen (Wayne) Sumpter of Papillion, Nebraska, and Robert Wilbur (Katie) Zimmerman of Omaha, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Jean Woodbury.
Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church on Saturday January 19, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Ellen Zienert officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Friday, January 18, 2013 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church, St. Johns Water Spray Park or Sparrow Hospice.
