The 3-day, life-balancing, Women’s Wellness Retreat for Breast Cancer Survivors at Grass Lake Sanctuary, is designed to help women who have completed their breast cancer treatment – whether that was 1 year or 10 years ago – to be open to new possibilities of wellness. The 145 acre non-profit retreat, located in Manchester, Michigan, is dedicated to helping individuals and families re-establish life-balancing connections with nature, healthy relationships, creativity from the heart, healthy food, and therapeutic massage.
If you are, or if you know a woman who lives in Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Jackson, Livingston, Shiawassee or Washtenaw counties, have been diagnosed with Stage I, II, or III breast cancer, have completed active treatment, and are interested in taking the next steps toward wellness, you may qualify for this highly restorative 3-day program.
“I was afraid of sad stories. I didn’t want another support group where I would be around the energy of struggle. Instead… I learned how to grow. I opened up to others. It helped me as a person.” – Lynn
The program addresses the need for increased psychosocial support for breast cancer survivors. According to an article published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, social well-being during the first year after a breast cancer diagnosis may have a beneficial effect on cancer outcomes. (Epplein M, Zheng Y, Zheng W et al. Quality of life after breast cancer diagnosis and survival. Journal of Clinical Oncology. Early online publication December 20, 2010.)
FULL scholarships are available for uninsured, under insured or low-income women, and are provided through a grant from the Mid-Michigan Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®! The retreats will be held in July and August; please call 734-408-1552 or visit http://womenswellnessatgrasslake.org/ for eligibility information and to register.
