Senior Center invites young and old

Clinton County Senior Center
If you haven’t been to the center in a while, or if you are new in town, or maybe you’ve been busy during the summer – whatever the reason, take a few minutes now to stop in at the Clinton County Senior Center. The Senior Center, located in its own building at 201 E Walker Street in St. Johns is a registered non-profit with 501©3 status that has been in the community since 1979. The center is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and the daily activities are directed by a part-time director.
You don’t have to be an “old” senior citizen to attend. If you are fifty (50) and looking to fill a few hours, come and check out what the center has to offer. There are cards, bingo and other games, exercise, library, nutritional meals and meals made onsite, socialization programs, educational/informative program speakers, day trips and more. And, the center is always open to new ideas. Maybe your card group needs a place to play, or maybe you have a group of quilters looking to meet weekly or you have a book club looking for space. Whatever the situation, call Kelly Voisinet, the center director at 989-224-4257 and she can see if something can be worked out.
As noted above, some meals are made onsite. Each Monday the center hosts a “Public Luncheon” where anyone can come in between 11:30 am to 12:30 pm for a complete meal for $5 ($6.50 with homemade pie) or $3 for a sandwich and chips. The homemade meals that will be served in September include:
Sep 9: Lasagna
Sep 16: Ham and Scalloped Potatoes
Sep 23: Roast Beef
Sep 30: Salads
The Senior Center is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday of each week between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. In addition to the Monday public luncheon noted above, meals are available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday for only $3 at noon.
Over the next couple of months the center will be very busy with a garage sale, a celebration day for their current members and their annual Rock-a-Thon fundraiser. To learn more about the celebration day or their fundraising efforts (which are tax deductible), contact their fundraising chair Brenda Terpening at 989-224-7248.
