Senior Center gearing up for Annual Rock-a-Thon

Thursday, October 10
It’s a fact of life that non-profits have to do fundraisers to raise money to keep their agencies going. It’s no different with the Clinton County Senior Center, but they have found a fun way of doing it.
Ten years ago they started doing a Rock-a-Thon, which has become an annual event. Board members, members of the center and friends of the center that participate each get a collection envelope and ask family, friends and neighbors for donations. Their goal is to raise at least $50 each, but there is always a competition to see who can raise the most. Prizes are awarded to the top three fundraisers at the event.
Then they bring their donations to the center on the designated day (this year it’s Thursday, October 10) and come for a day of fun. They rock in rocking chairs, tell stories and jokes, make crafts, play games and bingo, enjoy a great lunch and have a brown bag auction. This year their theme is “Cookies” in recognition of September being Cookie Month, so they will also be having a Cookie Exchange.
You do not have to be a member of the Senior Center to participate. If you would like to get a collection envelope and help raise money for the center and then enjoy a fun packed day, or if you would just like to make a donation, contact their fundraising chair Brenda Terpening at 989-224-7248.
In addition to working on the Rock-a-Thon the Board is currently recruiting new members. Anyone that joins now or anytime in October can get their bingo for free in October.
The center plays bingo on Tuesdays and Fridays at 12:30 pm and usually charges $1. But, if you join now you can play bingo nine times in October for free. They will also be giving away gift certificates at unannounced times during bingo in November. The center is able to offer free bingo and give out the gift certificate because of a short-term grant they received.
The Clinton County Senior Center is located at 201 E Walker Street in St. Johns and they are open on Mon, Tue, Wed and Fri each day between 9 am and 3 pm.
