Clinton County Senior Center
The members at the Clinton County Senior Center are getting tired of all this cold weather, so on Thursday, February 26 they will encourage the sun gods to warm things up by hosting a Hawaiian Luau. The event runs from 10 am to 3 pm and will include Hawaiian games and contests, a Hawaiian meal and a special Hawaiian Euchre Tournament. There will be lots of surprises and prizes throughout the day. The cost to attend is only $3. If you would like to check the center out at this fun event, please RSVP to 224-4257 by Tuesday, February 24.
Do you know a lot about a few things, a little about a lot of things or really not know much at all? Then you should come to the center and play Trivia. On Monday, March 2 and Monday, March 16 from 1-3 pm they will have host Free and Fun Trivia Tournaments. Everyone breaks into 1-3 member groups and teams change every 1-2 categories to provide more fun. There is a lot of shouting out answers, the occasional clues and lots of laughter. After each category the team with the highest score gets a small prize.
Also on Mondays the center holds a Euchre Tournament. On the 1st and 3rd Mondays (March 2 and 16) the tournament is held from 6:30-8:30 pm and on the 2nd, 4th and 5th Mondays (March 9, 23 and 30) it is held from 1-3 pm. The cost is $2 for all evening tournaments and only $1 or $2 for the afternoon tournaments, depending on if you eat lunch at the center that day before the tournament.
Of course Bingo, a popular activity of many seniors is held every Tuesday and Friday from 12:30-1:30 pm. The cost is only $1 and you will walk away with 4-5 great prizes. If you are not much of a player but would like to help someone else out, consider being a Bingo Buddy. The center has some members that need help playing due to eyesight issues or other handicaps. You could help them play their card and get their prizes.
If you are not into fun activities but just need a good hot meal, come down for a lunchtime meal. On Mondays the meal is open to the general public from 11:30 am to 12:30 and costs only $5. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday the meal is served at Noon and is available for a suggested $3 donation. The Senior Center has a commercially licensed kitchen so all meals are prepared according to health department standards. You can also come in and use the exercise equipment free of charge, work on a puzzle or just sit and converse with other people.
To round things out in March the center will hold a March Madness activity on Wednesday, March 25 from 10 am to 3 pm. The basketball themed event will include games, contests, a puzzle challenge, a luncheon meal and a Euchre Tournament. An RSVP by Monday, March 23 will be required.
The Clinton County Senior Center is located at 201 E Walker Street in St. Johns, just one block east of downtown. They are open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. There is no cost to become a member and it does not cost anything to get in each day. If you have any questions about any of their activities or general questions, call them at 989-224-4257.
