You are old enough
One of the things Board Members of the Clinton County Senior Center hear too often when they are talking to people about coming to the center is “Iām not old enough”. Well, if you are sixty or over (or even in your 50ās) “You are old enough”!
Sure, not every sixty year old is into bingo, but there is more going on than that. There are also Euchre games going on (and some of them quite competitive), exercise programs, educational speakers and day trips. And, the Board of Directors is very receptive to adding new activities that would attract more people ā they just need to know what those activities should be.

“We need more of the baby boomers to come down so we can find out what kinds of activities they want so we can plan them” said Brenda Terpening, Board Member and Fundraising Chair. “We have a few younger seniors that come down now, but it is hard (and expensive) to plan activities for 2-3 people. We need more involvement from community members so we can be what the next generation of senior citizens need in our community”, added Terpening.
The Clinton County Senior Center is located at 201 E. Walker Street in St. Johns (the old Fifth Third Bank Building on the corner of Walker and Spring Street, just one block north of M21) in downtown St. Johns. They are open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Terpening noted that “even if you still think you are too young for us, think about coming down to volunteer, or to organize an event for others. There is always gardening to do, meals to be served and we are always looking for people to bake cookies for bake sales, make pies for Monday lunches or cook our Monday lunches. At the very least, think about coming down on a Monday during our public lunch (11:30 am to 12:30 pm) and supporting the center by purchasing a meal. For only $5 ($6.50 with pie) you get a complete home cooked meal and all the money raised helps support center programs”.
The Clinton County Senior Center is a non-profit organization that does not receive any city, county, state or federal funding. Their Board of Directors and committees raise all the funds to keep this valuable resource in our community. If you have any questions about general programs or activities at the center call 989-224-4257, or if you would like to volunteer on any of their fundraising efforts call Terpening at 989-224-7248.
