Valentine’s Day performances
The Mint City Singers put a wrap on their Valentine’s Day performances recently with a 30 minute program for residents of Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor. That appearance followed a similar session one week earlier at Grace Haven Assisted Living in St. Johns after performances scheduled at both locations for December and January were cancelled because of flu lock downs.

While originally planned as a holiday programs, songs featured during the delayed presentations were generic in nature, ranging from a seasonal Carol of Winter Peace to such enduring popular arrangements as Catch a Falling Star and Yesterday. The group now is looking ahead to spring and a new schedule of singing dates beginning with Memorial Day and on to the annual Mint Festival.
Meanwhile, the singers will continue a routine of weekly rehearsals under direction of Ellen Hoard who has led the group for nearly a year, bringing new leadership, harmony and a calendar of performances. She is a retired music teacher with a background that offers a measure of professional talent, resulting in new group appearances.

The Mint City Singers began approximately four years ago under the encouragement of Carol Malewska and Susan Mahoney. Since the beginning, the group has rehearsed each Monday evening at St. Johns Lutheran Church and that venue continues. Needless to say, however, the group is multi-denominational. Use of the church is generously offered and that is where rehearsals continue to be held. In appreciation of on going use of the location, the group will be scheduling a special concert – to be announced – to benefit the building fund.
New members are always welcome. There are no auditions, just an interest in choral singing. Anyone interested in learning more about the group may contact Carol Malewska, 989 834-2281, Susan Mahoney, 989 224-4361 or Ellen Hoard, 989 233-5775.
