Registration deadline nears

For Kiwanis Tennis Tourney
With an Aug. 3 deadline for registrations, Chris Bouck, chair of 2011 Kiwanis Tennis Tournament, urged players to pick up an entry blank or get on line to sign up.
“We still have a few openings in both singles and doubles play,” he said, “and we’d like to have all openings filled by the August third closing time.” Registration forms are available at Briggs Public Library, Chamber of Commerce, St. Johns Recreation Department or on line at mmrn.org/tennis. Full details of tournament schedule and registration are available from either printed form or web site.
The tournament, scheduled for Aug. 12-14, has been an event of St. Johns annual Mint Festival for over a dozen years and in recent times has become a memorial tribute to former high school counselor and Kiwanis member Terry Cornwell.
“Terry was not only highly regarded by many students over the years, but was an important part of this tournament,” commented Bouck. “We hope to remember his many contributions to Kiwanis and to the community through this memorial event.”
As in the past, all singles and doubles competition will be held at St. Johns High School courts, 501 Sickles St. Registration fee for singles play is $20 and doubles fee is $30. Addition to both fees, players must provide one can of new tennis balls.
