Bad News, Marthie, and Heirloom Tomatoes
Terrorist threaten the United States, War in Afghanistan, Iraq, and secretly in Pakistan, continues. An oil well runs amuck in the Gulf of Mexico, millions of Mexicans cross our border illegally, thousands upon thousands losing health care coverage, Economy slow to recover, loans to AIG and other companies may never be paid back, illegal drugs flow unabated across the American-Mexican border, nations in Europe are near bankruptcy, but with all of these things happening, we can take comfort knowing law enforcement agencies continue to find illegal Marijuana plants.
Wow! I feel better now.

I love Martha Stewart, or is it I just love her money. I’m wondering, does she own a yacht? She and I would get along great, she at her estate and me on her yacht.
Martha is a little annoying. She has guests on her show who have a skill or talent and Martha has a need to tell them they’re either messy (she cleans up after them), or maybe their way of doing things isn’t a good thing (she shows them a better way or is it Martha’s way?).
Martha’s show might better be called, “So you think you’re smart,” that way the guests will know what they’re up against.
I call her Marthie, it’s an affectionate name for someone who isn’t easy to like.

I’m currently reading Andy Rooney’s book, “Out of my Mind.” He’s one of my favorite writers but I don’t always agree with him.
Before Tom Brokaw wrote, “The Greatest Generation,” he wrote Andy and asked him what he thought about the people who fought and won World War II, being called the greatest generation. Andy didn’t think they should be.
I disagree. I don’t think any other generation has been presented with as great a challenge, so until that happens, that is the greatest generation.
Other near-great generations may have done great things, but no other generation has faced this kind of challenge, met it head on, and saved the world. Had they not done so, the World would have been divided for a while into two camps, the German Empire and the Japanese Empire. Germany would have gobbled Italy up and whatever part of the World Japan didn’t conquer.
And then they would have probably attacked Japan.
Had Hitler waited a couple of years for his scientist to catch up with his plans to conquer the World, it would have happened. They were working on the Atomic bomb.

Mexico filed a brief in a federal court in Arizona supporting a lawsuit that challenges the constitutionality of Arizona’s new immigration law. Mexico argued that its interests and its citizens’ rights are at stake.
Huh?
Who gave them these rights?
The last three presidents, employers who are looking for cheap labor, political parties who want their votes, etc. Certainly not the American people.
Has the law of the land gotten in the way of progress?
I hope not, Gram.
It seems kind of ridiculous we’re sending jobs to Mexico while their citizens are coming here to set up house. Can you say squatters? To add salt to the wound, Illegals can have their babies here, free of charge, and the newborns instantly become American citizens entitled to all the things we can give them. That’s right, I said give rather than earn.
Why didn’t the Russians think of that?

We have been growing Heirloom tomatoes for the last two years. They’re said to be started from old seeds. That’s before the scientist starting working on growing a hybrid tomato that could be picked early, easier to pack because of their uniform size, travels well in the back of a truck, and slices easier.
On the other hand, heirloom tomatoes are ugly, irregular in shape and color, full of juice, and are very very tasty.
A real turnoff, right?
The current tomatoes in resturants are somewhat pink but picture perfect in shape, there’s no juice to make a mess in your lap, and they’re tasteless. When we order a sandwich at a resturant it generally indicates on the menu that the sandwich includes a slice of tomato. When we get done eating the sandwich we’re left wondering, where’s the tomato?
Grocery store tomatoes have gotten better because some of the good tasting ones are shipped still connected to the stems. They seem to taste better but I don’t know why.
Why can’t they use locally grown tomatoes when available? It’s probably against the law.
Until the next time . . .
