Kids celebrate Fire Prevention Week

This week is fire safety week, and each year the St Johns Fire Department along with Allaby & Brewbaker get to take Mr. Hoffman’s 3rd graders at St Joeseph School on a fire truck ride. This has been a tradition for several years and is something that the kids and adults look forward to each year.

Since 1922 the NFPA has sponsored the public observance of Fire Prevention Week. In 1925, President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed Fire Prevention Week a national observance, making it the longest-running public health observance in our country. During Fire Prevention Week, children, adults, and teachers learn how to stay safe in case of a fire. Firefighters provide lifesaving public education in an effort to drastically decrease casualties caused by fires.

Fire Prevention Week is observed each year during the week of October 9 in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire, which began on October 8, 1871 and caused devastating damage. This horrific conflagration killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures, and burned more than 2,000 acres of land.

Blue Bus working on transportation plan

Clinton Transit has been working on a Transportation Development Plan (TDP) to guide future service improvements. They have been actively seeking feedback from residents, businesses, and riders throughout the process.

“The level of engagement on the surveys earlier this year was extraordinary,” says Clinton Transit Executive Director MaLissa Schutt. “Now we have some unique opportunities for continued connection with the community.”

Clinton Transit has sought feedback from residents, businesses and riders every step of the way and extended the conversation with a series of events this week.

Blue Bus leadership and specialists from KFH Group, Inc. were on-hand to share survey results and ask residents how they would like Clinton Transit to address community needs and prioritize service improvements.

Established in 2001, Clinton Transit has been providing curb-to-curb service to meet the needs of all Clinton County residents. Fondly known as the Blue Bus, the on-demand transit system responds to ride requests and provides safe, reliable transportation to all county residents. This creates a more connected, accessible and vibrant Clinton County. For more information on the Blue Bus, visit mybluebus.com.

County to begin screening everyone at the courthouse

Beginning earlier this week some changes are happening at the Clinton County Courthouse. For added safety Clinton County is implementing security screening for everyone entering the courthouse.

If you’re planning to visit our City offices located within the courthouse, please be prepared to go through a quick security check at the entrance.

Just a friendly reminder – if you have payments to drop off, you can use the white city drop box situated on the south end of the Clinton County Courthouse parking lot, near Cass Street.
