New Clinton County Legal Self-Help Center now open
Residents of Clinton County and mid-Michigan now have a new place to go for
legal help: the Clinton County Legal Self-Help Center. The Clinton County Legal Self-Help Center is located in the Briggs District Library.
The center is a partnership between the Briggs District Library, Clinton County Courts, Michigan Legal Help, and other community partners.
The center will be a part of the Mid-Michigan Legal Self-Help Center Network with the Ingham County Legal Self-Help Center, located in the State of Michigan Law Library, and the Eaton County Legal Self-Help Center. Residents will be able to access whichever center is most convenient for them.
Visitors to the center can access high-speed internet, computers, and printers to use the Michigan Legal Help website in English (MichiganLegalHelp.org) or Spanish (AyudaLegaldeMichigan.org). The Michigan Legal Help website contains free, easy-tounderstand information on common legal issues. This includes know-your-rights articles, self-led interviews that help visitors fill out court forms, and step-by-step instructions that help walk visitors through how they need to file and serve their forms, and the steps that follow. The website can also help visitors look for a lawyer in their area and connect with local community services if they need more assistance.
Visitors also have access to navigators who are trained to help visitors find the resources they need. While Navigators cannot give legal advice, they can answer questions about court practices and processes, help visitors locate and complete the court-approved forms available on the website, and find referrals to lawyers and community service providers.
The center in Clinton County joins 29 other centers across the state offering free, high quality legal self-help services to the citizens of Michigan. The Michigan Legal Help Program is funded by the Michigan State Bar Foundation, the Michigan Supreme Court, and through grants from the Legal Services Corporation.
Briggs District Library is located at 108 E. Railroad St. in St. Johns.

Help bring the Arts to the Community by Donating on #GivingTuesday
#GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. #GivingTuesday will kick off the generosity season this year by inspiring people to give back on November 28, 2023 and throughout the year.
As the Clinton County Arts Council (CCAC) looks back on a year that has been both challenging and rewarding, it is already looking ahead to next year to bring even more arts related activities to the Clinton County community.
As many local non-profit organizations, CCAC has been hit hard by the challenges of a world living with, and after, COVID-19. Last year their sales, events and donations were all down 55%, 57% and 61%, respectively. Even though their operational expenses remain relatively equal, it left them with a 57% gap to cover. In addition, their Grant for the coming year has been decreased by 75%.
The CCAC remains committed to bringing cultural experiences to Clinton County in spite of these troubling times. They believe that the arts are an integral part of the human experience, and they remain committed to contributing to Clinton County a quality arts experience.
You can help continue that tradition by donating to the CCAC as part of #GivingTuesday.
