Briggs celebrates 20th Anniversary
by Maralyn Fink
On Tuesday evening I attended the 20th Anniversary of the Briggs District Library.
The library was moved to the current location in September of 1999. Board Members are appointed by the City Commission or the School Board and serve 7 year terms. Sara Morrison is the Director of the Library at this time, and Brett Harger is Assistant Director. Other members are Jean Reustman, Treas. Bob Jesse Chair, Jason Denovich Vice Chair, Chris Zehr, Elizabeth Ayoub, Leslie Salemi and Rob Andretz.
Planning for this event took place the last few months. There were games for the kids, an ice cream social and entertainment.
The library would like to thank everyone for their years of support and service, and we would like to thank Briggs Library for being there for us.

Michigan racing legend donates car to Clinton County Historical Museum

Kris Patterson of St. Johns is truly a Michigan racing legend. Inducted into the Michigan Motor Sports Hall of Fame in 2000, he has an amazing record of over 500 wins on the oval track and has set and broken more records than any other Michigan driver.
Kris began his career racing go-carts and Soap Box Derby cars, winning the St. Johns championship in 1968. With the scheduled return of the Soap Box Derby in St. Johns next year, Kris has decided to donate his Soap Box Derby car to the Clinton County Historical Museum, the Paine-Gillam-Scott House.
The Museum, located at 106 Maple Street on the west side of the courthouse, is delighted to have this Soap Box Derby car on permanent display from such a prominent Michigan racing personality.

First Congregational Church to host Spiritual Gifts class

The First Congregational Church Spiritual Gifts class will be held Tuesdays 7:00 – 9:00 PM Starting October 9. The class, facilitated by Bill Rockwell and Melanie Lounds, is designed to help you discover and learn to use the gifts that the Lord has given you. Many in our congregation have found the class so helpful that they have taken it several times.
According to the Bible each of us have been given gifts by God, called “spiritual gifts,” with which to serve God and love each other. These gifts are not our skills or talents; they are gifts of the Holy Spirit for working out God’s purpose in our lives. Together, these gifts endow the Church – the Body of Christ – with the power to do mighty works in His name.
Please join us for this life changing, and gift affirming, course. All those in middle school and older are encouraged to join us.
For more information or to express an interest in participating, call 989.224.2636 or email First.congregational.church.sj@gmail.com.
“The Gifts he gave were . . . to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.” –Ephesians 4:11-12
