MMDHD names ACE Award winner
Mid Michigan District Health Department has named Allison Schafer the newest winner of their ACE Award.
The award recognizes employees for Achievement, Character and Excellence.
Schafer is described as someone who is always pleasant and kind to clients and co-workers, and who pitches in wherever and whenever needed.
Sisung named new associate field crops and advisory team specialist
Theresa Sisung has been named the new associate field crops and advisory team specialist for the Michigan Farm Bureau.
Sisung, a crop and livestock farmer from St. Johns, will be responsible for addressing issues that affect the corn, soybean, wheat, sugarbeet, and dry bean industries. By accepting the position, she will also coordinate Michigan Farm Bureau’s participation on national-level issues and serve in advisory committees. Her first day will be February 4.
“We are excited to have Theresa join our team at Michigan Farm Bureau,” said Ernie Birchmeier, manager of the Center for Commodity Farm and Industry Relations at MFB. “Her expertise and background will go a long way in serving our members and addressing issues that impact the field crops industry.”
Sisung graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in Ag and Natural Resources Communications. She then completed a master’s degree from Kansas State University in agribusiness management.
Most recently, Sisung represented Michigan in the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Young Farmer and Rancher Excellence in Agriculture competition at the 100th annual AFBF meeting in New Orleans.
Historians to discuss the Orphan Train at the Briggs

The Briggs District Library will be hosting Michigan historians Al and Dave Eicher on Tuesday, February 5, when they present “The Orphan Train in Michigan.”
The Eichers will share their research on the Orphan Train, its selection process, what it was like to be a Rider, and the Michigan connections to the Orphan Train.
No library card is needed to attend this free program, but advance registration is appreciated, and can be found on our website.

Relay Walkers look forward to Lent

Just in time for lent – Westside Walkers Relay for Life Team is doing their Walleye Fish Sale again. Orders will be taken starting February 11. The price is $45 (cash only) for a 1O pound bag. $10 from every bag sold with be donated to the Relay For Life.
