Join this fun Laser Tag event at the St. Johns High School softball field for 12-17 year olds. Parents and guardians are welcome too.

Class of ’59 to hold reunion during Mint Festival
The Rodney B. Wilson class of 1959 is holding their 60-year reunion during the weekend of the Mint Festival.
They have planned the following events for classmates to enjoy:
– Pat Joslyn has arranged for a pizza party on Thursday night, August 8, the night before the first reunion event. He has reserved a room at the Roadhouse in St. Johns. 5-6 p.m. meet and greet, 6 p.m. pizza. Pay your own.
– Friday night August 9 – 4:00-? but no later than 10:00 p.m. Motz Park, located on N. DeWitt Rd. between Colony and French Roads. They will be having a catered build-your-own sandwich meal for $10/person. You can choose between ham or turkey. You may bring a beverage of your choice if you want something other than water or iced tea. The park facilities are handicap accessible and the parking lot is paved.
– Saturday night August 10 – dinner at the Emerald Golf Club. This is also where they had the last reunion. Social hour is 5:00-6:00 p.m., cash bar. Dinner at 6:00, $25/person. Your choices are roast beef or chef carved pork loin. There will also be garlic roasted redskin potatoes, veggie blend, salt, roll and butter, cake, coffee, tea and water.
– Sunday, August 11 – 9:00 a.m. Breakfast at Main Street Café. Order off the menu.
Organizers expect this to be their last formally planned reunion, so they would like to see as many of their classmates as possible attend at least one of the events.
Please advise Sally Boron if you will be attending any of these events as she will have to turn in the final head count a week before the catered events.

Organizers are in the final stages of getting everything set for National Night Out. New this year they will have a photo booth, so bring your best cheesy grin.
Legendary Artists Passage celebration is August 3

Murals beautify our public spaces and Arts Council members are so very pleased with everyone’s involvement and commitment to this project. From prepping to preserving, this community mural project has been so rewarding in so many ways and to so many people involved.
Please join them for a celebration reception at the Depot Pavilion on Saturday, August 3 at 3:00 p.m. Enjoy light refreshments. Then as a community everyone will all walk the trail to the mural.

HSMM’s Mainstream Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Wait List opening in July
Housing Services Mid Michigan announces the opening of its Mainstream Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Wait List for individuals with disabilities, ages 18-61.
To qualify, you must have a verifiable disability, be between the ages of 18 and 61, and agree to live in Clinton County.
Packets will be available Monday, July 22, 2019 through Friday, August 2, 2019,
either from the Clinton DHHS office located at 105 W. Tolles Dr., St. Johns, MI 48879, or by downloading from www.hs-mm.org.
All packets must be returned in one of the following ways: emailed to csmith@hs-mm.org, faxed to 517-541-0269, or mailed with a postmark no later than Friday, August 16, 2019 to HSMM at PO Box 746 Charlotte, MI 48813 to be considered for the wait list. CRV to visit Yankee Air Museum
The Yankee Air Museum offers a wealth of educational programs and excels with STEM programming
specifically developed for children grades K-12.
The community Resource Volunteers has scheduled a trip on August 7 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. for ages 8-12 year olds. The cost of the event is $35 which cover transportation and admission to the museum. Please bring a sack lunch, wear comfortable shoes and dress according to the
weather.

4-H Fair – Come join us at the Clinton County 4-H Fair Tuesday, July 30 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. in the Discovery Tent for crafts and games.
Starting School Story-Time – Ages: going into Pre-school, Begindergarten, Young 5’s or Kindergarten. This program for independent listeners will be on Thursday, August 15, 6:30-7:30pm. We will enjoy sharing new and fun school stories, a craft and snack. Registration is required and is open now.
Chapter Chatter “Looking Up” – Children ages 6-8 are invited to join us on Monday evenings, 7:00 -7:45 p.m, August 5 – 26. We will share and give a thumbs up or down on short chapter books over the 4-week session plus we will be looking up (somewhere?) Our 1st session is at the library for some out of this world crafts (book-ends, mural, sun catchers) The second session we will meet at the City water tower and get a “look up inside the tower” and learn how it all works from Justin Smith, Water Systems Supervisor, City of St. Johns. The 3rd session will be at the library, more information to follow! Our last session we will meet at the Nordic Pineapple Bed and Breakfast for a tour and a bird’s eye view looking Up and Down from the balcony on Oakland St. Registration is open now. It will be a fun way to finish the summer :
Coding Club – This *New* program will teach beginning robotics and programming using the library’s Ozobots! This is an introduction to Ozobots, so no prior experience is necessary. The class for tweens and teens ages 11-14 will meet Monday, August 5, Tuesday, August 6, and Wednesday, August 7 from 2:00-3:00. Registration is required, and is now available.
Play-Doh Time – Children ages 4-6 can join in the squishy fun and creative play on Tuesday, August 20, 6:30-7:30 p.m. We will follow our summer reading theme of space and create different planets, aliens, spaceships and who knows what else might be out there? Registration is required and opens on Tuesday, July 23.
LEGOS in Space!!!! – Ages 7-12 are invited to enjoy imaginative fun building and creating new worlds (maybe an alien or a spaceship or a new planet) with LEGO blocks on Tuesday, August 27, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Registration is required and begins on Tuesday, July 30.
Toddler Storytime – Children ages 2-3 (with a participating adult) are invited to join us on Wednesday mornings, 10:30-11:00, August 7- August 28 where we will read stories, move to the music, and explore our imagination with crafts all while learning about the world around us. Registration is required.
Kiddie Drive-in Movie – Children ages 3-5 will create their own “cars” to sit in while we enjoy a short cartoon and a snack on Friday, August 2 from 2:30-3:15 p.m. Registration is required for this event.
Connections – Patrons needing help with OverDrive/Libby, RBDigital, or any of the library’s other e-services will be able to come to the library for drop-in tech help each Wednesday from 2:00-3:00 p.m.
TAB Campfire – Teens interested in learning more about the library’s Teen Advisory Board can join us on Tuesday, August 13 from 7:30-8:30. We will make s’mores over a fire, and discuss TABs role in influencing the library’s teen collection, programs, and services. Registration is now available on our website.
BriggsFlix – The final installment in the BriggsFlix summer movie series for adults and teens is the space action comedy, The Fifth Element. The movie will show in the library’s Meeting Room on Wednesday, August 21 at 6:30. Space is limited, so registration is required, and is now available. Tween Makerspace – The space theme continues with our next Tween Makerspace when we will be testing the sun’s energy! Tweens ages 8-12 can join us on Wednesday, August 14 from 1:30-2:30 to examine different ways the sun reacts to the world around us. Registration is required, and is now available.
Library Closure– The Library will be closed Saturday August 10 for the Mint Festival. Watch for staff in the parade Saturday morning. The Library will also be closed Saturday August 31 and Monday September 2 for the Labor Day Holiday. The drop box on the Library porch will be available for returns throughout these closures.

Chronic Pain PATH workshop coming up
“Chronic Pain PATH (Personal Action Toward Health) is a 6-week workshop designed for people with chronic pain. In this interactive workshop, people are taught effective tools to better self-manage their condition and its impact on their life.
Managing chronic pain is more than taking medications. We address a variety of topics including fatigue management, dealing with difficult emotions, and pacing and planning. Includes the Moving Easy Program: safe exercises to improve strength, flexibility, and endurance. Caregivers and significant others are also welcome to sign up and attend as active participants. The workshop is free of charge courtesy of Michigan State Medical Society. Pre-registration is required.”

Local student graduates from MCTI

The Michigan Career and Technical Institute (MCTI) – a school that promotes the integration of adults with disabilities into the workplace and society by providing vocational training – hosted a graduation ceremony for 172 students from across the state on Friday, July 19.
MCTI is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. Operated by Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), MCTI provides vocational training in 13 careers. It is the second largest rehabilitation training center in the country.
