September 12 and 13
The Clinton County Senior Center, located at 201 E Walker Street in St. Johns will be holding a Garage Sale at their facility on Thursday and Friday, September 12 and 13. The sale will run from 9 am to 5 pm on Thursday, September 12 and from 9 am to 3 pm on the 13th.
Over the last year dozens of individuals have donated items to the center including nic nacs, puzzles, stuffed animals, toys and much more. Also, the Senior Center was excited to receive two booths of antiques and collectibles from a vendor associated with the Antiques and Friends store in downtown St. Johns.
The Senior Center uses donations in many ways: they are put into one of their two gift shops, items are used as Bingo prizes, some items are simply put out free for their members and then other items are sold at periodic garage sales.
In addition to the Garage Sale the center will have its two Gift Shops open. In one of the shops there are gently used nic nacs, decorative items, etc. In the other shop you will find all homemade items such as quilts, afghans, scarves, hats, mittens and gloves. They just recently received a donation of pet blankets in a variety of colors and sizes.
If you miss the monthly Bake Sales the Senior Center used to hold at Kroger’s, now is your opportunity to stock up on some yummy treats. During their Garage Sale the center will also hold a Bake Sale. They will have cookies, brownies, cakes, breads, candy and much more. If you have a special request, call Brenda at 989-224-7248 and she will take your order and have one their bakers add it to their list.
During the Garage Sale members will see no interruption of services. The center is normally closed on Thursdays, but on Friday regular activities like cards, lunch and bingo will continue. If you have never visited the center and want to know what it’s all about, plan to stay after you have made your garage sale purchases and join them at bingo or lunch.
In October the Senior Center will hold their annual Rock-a-Thon. During this event members (or friends of the center) collect donations and then come and rock in rocking chairs for a day. Throughout the day they play bingo and other games, tell stories and jokes, win prizes, have lunch and conclude things with a Brown Bag Auction.
If you have any questions about either of these events or other fundraising events for the center, call their fundraising chair Brenda Terpening at 989-224-7248.
