St. Johns High School senior Taylor Massa made it official this week – he’s joining the University of Michigan wrestling program at the conclusion of his high school career.
The three-time individual state champion made the announcement this week at an informal press conference.

Massa had been courted by a number of universities, including Michigan State, but ultimately selected the Wolverines in what he called an “extremely hard decision.” He cited a desire to wrestle in the Olympics as a deciding factor in choosing UM.
The future UM grappler helped the SJHS wrestling squad win back-to-back team state titles in 2009 and 2010. His individual titles came in three weight classes: 145, 152 and 160 pounds. Massa is working toward a fourth individual title this season.

Massa has compiled a 187-0 individual record during three seasons at SJHS, and has won a pair of national titles in freestyle and Greco levels in national competitions.
